The 2021 Chinese CFA Women’s Super League kicked off this weekend. This year the competition is being held in two stages and Yunnan province is hosting all league games.
The first stage of the tournament will see ten teams playing each other and after the ninth round the first four placed teams will play each other. Only the top two teams with the most number of points will earn a place in the final whilst the remaining six teams will face a playoff against relegation.
Three of the nine rounds of the opening phase will be played in May before the league breaks to allow the Steel Roses to prepare for the Olympic games. The remaining fixtures will resume in early August.
The opening rounds kicked off this weekend with five exciting fixtures. Defending champions Wuhan Jiangda played new league debutant Sichuan. Tabitha Chawinga scored on her debut for Wuhan Jiangda whilst her little sister Temwa scored a brace also on the scoring sheet was Wang Shuang as Wuhan Jiangda thumbed Sichuan 4-0.
Midfielder Wang Shuang was awarded the best player of the first round. Shanghai Shengli striker Yan Jinjin who scored three goals in her team 7-1 victory against Henan Jianye is the leading top goalscorer.
