After the 2020 edition of the COSAFA Cup was canceled due to the covid-19 pandemic, the prestigious regional competitions return this year with the draw set for Thursday.
The draw of the tournament will be staged in the host city Nelson Mandela Bay on Thursday ahead of the 20th edition of the regional showpiece. The 12-team tournament draw will also be streamed live on COSAFA TV from 11h00 when the fate of the competing teams will be decided.
This year the competition will take on a new format with 12 teams split into three groups each containing four teams. Only the top teams in each pool, as well as the best second-place finisher, will advance to the semifinals. They will be no Plate competition.
West African powerhouse Senegal will be participating in the tournament as a guest nation. According to COSAFA ten teams have so far confirmed their participation and these are host South Africa, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi, Lesotho, Mozambique, Namibia, Botswana, Eswatini, Comoros, and Senegal. The 12th team will be confirmed soon.
