Zimbabwe kick started their campaign in the first ever FIDE Online Olympiad today. The major online chess event for national teams has been running since 25th of July. Zimbabwe were drawn in the top division which is composed of 40 teams which were divided into four pools with 10 teams each.

Drawn in pool A together with India, Germany, China, Vietnam, Indonesia, Iran, Uzbekistan, Georgia and Mongolia, Zimbabwe started the top division stage with a game against India and were thumbed  6-0.

Round 2 saw Zimbabwe play against Uzbekistan and we only manage half a point whilst Uzbekistan scored five and a half points. Last round of the day saw Zimbabwe been baptized again losing 6-0 to Indonesia.

Today Zimbabwe kick start round 4 with a game against Iran who only managed to win one game against Georgia yesterday. Our second game of the day will be against Mongolia who are also struggling and only draw one game against Georgia.

Linda Shaba

Linda Shaba was instrumental helping Zimbabwe with 0.5 points in yesterday game against Uzbekistan.

We will end the day with a game against George. Currently Zimbabwe are sitting on the bottom of the log with 0,5 points, whilst India is comfortable sitting on top of the log with 15,5 points, followed by China and Germany who have 13,5 and 11,5 points respectively.
