South African sprinter Akani Simbine who recently won a gold medal at the Seizwe Medical Fund ASA Senior Championships some two months ago will lead a small South African contingent at the third leg of the World Athletics Diamond League series in Florence, Italy.
He is one of the only three athletes in the men’s 100m line-up who dipped under 10 seconds this year, and he will turn out among the favorites for victory. Simbine will however need to be at his best considering that he will be going against a field that includes Arthur Cisse, Lamont Marcelo Jacobs, and Chijindu Ujah.
Ivorian Arthur Cisse who recently finished second behind Simbine at the 2018 CAA African Championship has also been tipped to pull a surprise tomorrow. Three South African athletes namely Wenda Nel, Zakithi Nene, and Akani Simbine will be representing the country at the Florence Diamond League.
