Lady Chevrons kick started the Victoria Tri-series with a win after they defended their 102 runs in an impressive and courageous way against Kenya.
The East African won the toss and sent Zimbabwe to bat first our openers Mushangwe and Mupachikwa looked ready to lead Zimbabwe to victory. 8th over the partnership between the two was destroyed after MIPS choke a was sent packing leaving Zimbabwe at 51/1 in 08.4ovrs. It was Mushangwe and Tiripano partnership that was didn’t last two minutes after a miscommunication between the two that send Tiripano out with just 1 run [08.6ovr]
Captain Musonda joined Mushangwe and the ladies found the going tough after Mushangwe was send packing in the 9th over leaving Zimbabwe 52/3 . Josephine Nkomo and Precious Marange did the most producing 29 runs. First innings ended Zimbabwe 103/8
Kenya needing just 103 runs to win we all thought they had this but alas the Lady Chevrons fighting spirits played the biggest part in restricting Kenya a first win. Nomvelo Sibanda draw first blood in the [01.1 ovrs] when she send Abel Quentoor out, Zimbabwe second wicket came in the 5th over when Nomatter dismissed Mary Mwanga.
Kenya had wickets falling after Zimbabwe introduced Tasmeen Granger who bowled well for the Lady Chevrons and restricted Kenya getting 3wickets for Zimbabwe biggest wicket been that of Sharon Jumo great display by wicket keeper Chiedza who showed character👌
In the end Kenya failed to reach the 103 target only managing 96/9 in 19.4 ovrs this meaning Zimbabwe Lady Chevrons won by 6 runs. Tasmeen Granger was named Player of the game after an impressive bowling display. Lady Chevrons next game is on Sunday against host nation Uganda
