“The journey has only just begun, this is just the beginning as we preserver to do more to ensure the development of hockey not only in Africa but around the world as a whole,” says Sarah Bennett.
Sarah Bennett is a hockey administrator and Federation of International hockey technical official. Last month the Zimbabwean hockey official was awarded an FIH Diploma of Merit. The Diploma is awarded to individuals who have served a period of distinguished service to the sport. A description that applies to this highly respected official.
Bennett, the General Secretary of Hockey Association of Zimbabwe is an FIH International Umpire Manager and will be officiating at the Tokyo Olympic Games. She has greatly advanced the cause of umpiring and this can be witnessed by the increase of Zimbabwean hockey officials.
Recently Sharne Mayers and Bryn Lowe were part of the Indoor Africa Cup 2021 technical officials. Bennett who is a holder of a degree in sports psychology is also contributing immensely to the development of hockey in Africa. And this impressed Africa Hockey leading her to land a post as a member of the Africa Hockey Federation and also the chair of the Africa Hockey Development Committee.
Speaking to our publication Bennett said she was honored to be recognized for her work on the development of coaches and officials in Africa.
