Young Mighty Warriors dreams of qualifying for the U-20 World Cup has been shuttered after FIFA decided to call off the tournament which was set to be hosted by Costa Rica and Panama in 2020.

The Rosemary Mugadza coached team defeated Malawi by 2-1 in the preliminary stage to progress to the first round of the U-20 World Cup qualifiers and they were scheduled to play Ethiopia.

FIFA confirmed the cancellation of both the U-17 and U-20 women’s cup due to the novel covid-19 pandemic.

“We regret to inform you that due to the worldwide situation that has strongly affected by the covid-19 as well as the difficulties all confederations are facing to complete the qualifiers phase, FIFA decided to cancel both the U-17 and U-20 women’s world cup -2020.

Consequently, the phases of all the continental qualifiers are as well cancelled. ”  read a statement from CAF dated 20 December

The Under 20 women national team had used the COSAFA Senior women’s championship to prepare for the clash against Ethiopia.
