A few week ago Rugby Africa announced that they were giving £5000 as covid-19 relief funding to rugby unions in the continent.
Zimbabwe Rugby Union then formed a committee that was chaired by Abigail Mnikwa, Tinashe Shamu and Knowledge Moyo,they were tasked to look at the modalities of the disbursement of the funds.
Speaking during the covid-19 relief fund presentation the acting president of Zimbabwe Rugby Union Losson Mtongwiza thanked Rugby Africa for the relief fund.
“We have received £5000 from Rugby Africa to help our rugby community and £3000 has been used to procure and distribute food hampers. The rest of the money will be used for procuring medical necessities as recommended by our medical team and the Sports and Recreation Commission, this is in anticipation of the reopening of rugby.” – Losson Mtongwiza
The funds set aside for food allowed Zimbabwe Rugby Union to procure 243 bags of mealies meal and 181 food hampers with Pro brands donating an additional 19 taking the total number of hampers to 200. Hampers will be distributed to chosen senior national team players including their technical teams, former players and referees who covered international games in 2019 and a few clubs.
