Whilst football supporters complain of the absence of Zimbabwean match officials during high profile games such as the African Cup Of Nations and Fifa World Cup, Zimbabwean hockey fans are celebrating the appointment of Sarah Bennett by FIH as a technical official at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
Last year in June Bennett was appointed into the FIH Pro league panel, in May this year she was the technical official during the FIH Pro Hockey League grand final. A month ago Bennett was the technical delegate at the African Road to Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games qualifiers in Stellenbosch, South Africa where our Zimbabwe Ladies hockey team won a bronze medal.
“It’s a dream come true,as a sports person I have always dreamt of officiating at the Olympics games. Being able to represent Zimbabwe and Africa at the Olympics is such a great honour.” said Sarah Bennett. Bennett even went further and quoted Michael Phelps ” Don’t put a limit on anything. The more you dream, the further you get. ”
Asked what advice she would give to upcoming Zimbabwean hockey officials Bennett said dedication, hard work and giving back to the sport you love has its reward.
